LEESBURG - Leesburg High School Boys Track and Field Standout Marcus Blessing won the Class 3A District 4 Pole Vault Championship today at Deltona High School. Blessing has won the District championship for the second year in a row. Blessing cleared 13 feet to clinch a spot in next weeks regional track meet.

"It took 11'6" for me to win, that was my opening height," Blessing said in a interview with Carver Heights Quarterback Club Staff Writer Gerald Lacey after capturing the district title.

After winning the district championship last year Blessing went into this year's district meet with plenty of confidence.

"Yeah I was fairly confident, this is the 3rd district championship I've won for Leesburg. I won pole vault district last year and soccer district this year".

Blessing feels he will have a shot at a state track meet berth if he can jump at least 13'6 at the regional tournament.

"To win regionals I will have to jump 13'6" or 14'. My current personal record is 14'.

Blessing is being coveted by several different schools during his senior year at Leesburg and is expected to make a decision on where he will attend college in the near future.

"I have been approached by Embry Riddle in Daytona and Troy University in Alabama," said Blessing with a big smile when speaking on his future as a pole vaulter in college.

Don't be surprised if you see this standout at this years state meet.
