TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The University of North Florida track and field team captured a season-high five gold medals on Friday evening at the Seminole Twilight Invitational, hosted by Florida State University.

"This was a good meet for us," Head Coach Jeff Pigg said. "Thankfully, they dodged the weather and we had a lot of kids perform really well today. That's really all you're looking for this close to the conference championships."

Junior David Shepherd grabbed his second individual win of 2013 in the pole vault, grabbing a mark of 4.90m to take the win. Freshman Marcus Blessing and senior Noah Thompson tied for sixth in the event with a height of 4.60m.

The 4x400m relay team brought home the other gold medal for the men's team, as freshman Jamal Pitts, sophomore Jake Menan and seniors Justin Mims and Aaron Tillman clocked a time of 3:17.27, the Ospreys fourth-fastest time of the season.........READ MORE CLICK HERE

The first thing that Leesburg placed in was the novice 400 yard dash, Herbert Butler coming in second in this event.  

Leesburg won two places in the novice 880. Otis Butler won a close second place and Bill Ross succeeded in taking third place.

Cox, the pride of L. H. S., took second place in the novice high jump and pole vault . James Dorden says next year he is going to take first place in thses events. Clyde Driggers, one of our best vaulters, sprained his wrist a few days before the meet and was unable to enter.

Oglesby Brown, the best athlete in the school, succeeded in taking first place in the novice discuss throw and fourth place in the high jump.

Leesburg had two men entered in the championship class and seven in the novice. Adams and Green were the two in the championship class.

In the 400 yard dash Green set a pace that was entirely too fast for his opponents and won this event by a large margin. Green came withing two-fifths of a second of the state record. Green also won fourth place in the running broad jump.

Tough Luck “Willet failed to place in the meet, but deserves much credit for his efforts. Adams was crippled and we couldn’t expect much from him.

Leesburg took second place in the novice meet, making a total of 19 point. Fort Myers succeeded in taking first place only beating by two points. We expect to take first place next year in the novice and are going to make a fine showing in the championship class.
